Power of Two is taking part in #GivingTuesdayNow!

As New York City faces the COVID-19 pandemic, we at Power of Two have stepped up to protect our families and communities from re-traumatization during this time of crisis.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving taking place on May 5th, 2020—in addition to the regularly scheduled #GivingTuesday on December 5th, 2020—which responds to the urgent need created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The data on illness and death rates says it all: our communities of color are facing the greatest fallouts from this crisis. The rising number of cases and deaths, financial havoc, social isolation, and uncertainty have made many families feel overwhelmed and anxious. Mental health experts also highlight what we are seeing among community residents: exposure to constant stress (toxic stress) as a result of COVID-19 could soon become a public health crisis of its own.

As a trusted messenger and advocate, Power of Two is in a position to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 on Brownsville’s families. Through our COVID-19 response, we are equipping our team and families for remote, virtual delivery of “TeleABC,” which will reinforce family bonds and calming strategies for parents and children during this time of unprecedented isolation and anxiety. Additionally, we will continue our provision of baby essentials and PPE, which will alleviate families’ immediate fears and protect their physical safety.

Your contribution will support us to continue our programming via technology-assisted means, as well as to equip families with the baby essentials they urgently need during this time of physical distancing and economic crisis.
